Language and communication are essential for close relationships between people: for mutual understanding, social interaction and fruitful business contacts. Language and intercultural skills are important for academic and career success.
The Foreign Language Centre was established in the year 2004 with the aim to respond to the language needs of students in their academic disciplines. The Language Centre’s mission is to develop the ability of its students at all levels of study to become proficient foreign language users (or proficient users of other languages) through an established programme of languages and literacies teaching and support. It is Ruia’s home for all students, teaching and non-teaching staff who want to improve their language skills. We are dedicated to maximising our students' linguistic competence and academic potential through professional language training and continuous study support.
You can choose from a variety of modern languages including English, French, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, German, and Spanish, to prepare our students for global demands. Our programme is delivered by our team of highly qualified and experienced teachers, working closely with our academic and Professional Services colleagues across the University.
Whether you want to enhance your research skills, read more widely, communicate with people more easily, improve your career prospects or simply learn something new, the Language Centre offers a central hub for everyone.
