About Us

Welcome to the Department of Computer Science & Information Technology, where innovation meets education. Department of Computer Science & IT was established in the year 1999. Ramnarain Ruia College was among the first 8 colleges to start B.Sc. in Computer Science Programme affiliated to University of Mumbai. Subsequently, we introduced M.Sc. Computer Science and M.Sc. Information Technology in the year 2002 and 2011 respectively.

Our vision is to foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for our students. We are dedicated to advancing the frontiers of technology through excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. We focus on the holistic development of our students by providing them the environment that enhances innovations, problem-solving & research attitude in students. We train our students in a wide spectrum right from basics, core areas to emerging & trending technologies in the market. Our Post-graduate programmes emphasizes on Research and Specialization in current trends of Computing. We offer Internship to MSc Copmuter Science & IT both in the last semester (Sem IV). Many students get absorbed as full time employees after completing their Interships.

Our Department is proud to receive the grants under the Star College Scheme from DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India in 2016. These grants assisted to promote Undergraduate Research and training in current Trends and Technologies.

Our students have excelled as entrepreneurs, innovators and researchers in various IT domains of global competence. Many of our students are placed in leading companies like Google, Apple, L & T InfoTech, TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, Infosys, MBT, ATOS, Deloitte.

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has today become integral part of all industry domains as well as fields of academics and research. Considering the global competence we aim to provide high quality and affordable education in career building of students and encourage them to excel in various fields. Also enhance creativity and entrepreneurial approach through industrial collaborations.

Under autonomy a real genuine attempt has been made while designing the B.Sc. Computer Science / M.Sc. Computer Science & M.Sc. Information Technology programmes. Not only does it prepare the students for a career in Software industry, it also motivates them towards further studies and research opportunities. We strive to bridge the gap between industry and academia. We have updated our curriculum that meets the industry needs and makes students job ready. We have included courses of current trends like Cloud Copmuting, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, Full Stack Development and many more.

We feel pround to share that many of our students have also become Entreprenuers and are now they are offering internships to our current students.

The core philosophy of overall syllabus is to –

We foster Project Based Learning - In each semester UG & PG students work on 5-6 projects that are given as a part of Contionus Internal ASsessment. This practice has helped students a lot to explore their potentials and acquire new skills in the current trends & technologies.

Best Practices

● Placement Assistance: Pre-placement training by industry experts, counselling by mentors leads to maximum on-campus and off-campus placements.

● Internships: Undergraduate students are encouraged for summer internships, Postgraduate students have Six-month internship in their course where faculty mentors guide them throughout the process.

● Industry involvement: Experts from industry are invited as trainers, contributing suggestions to the curriculum.

Activity Computer Science

Our main focus of conducting various activities is the overall development of students, faculties and achieve our mission. We have conducted guest lectures by eminent personalities from International universities and organizations to motivate students. We organized extensive training and workshops in domains apart from curriculum under star college scheme in Robotics, open-source technologies, Android, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and many more. Placements and internships being our main focus we trained students in soft skills to increase their employability.

I Megha Sawant, Head, Department of Computer Science & IT, Welcome you to the Department of Computer Science & IT. I am proud to be associated with Ruia college for over two decades as student, faculty and now head of the department. I firmly believe in education that triggers not only the intellectual ability but also motivates mind and soul positively to create, share and apply knowledge. I am fortunate to implement my ideas with the support of institution, colleagues and students.

We are always in the process of tuning the young minds to make them globally competitive. We, educators, believe in the principle “Learn by doing” with more emphasis on the practical implementation of concepts and Project-based learning with applications to real-world problem-solving. We focus on catering to the needs of Millennial learners with enhanced ICT tools for collaborative learning, blended learning and flipped classrooms. We strive to maximize the potential of each student by maintaining a positive and trusting relationship. We organize various activities like Intercollegiate IT Festival TechStorm, Seminars, Workshops/Training on recent Trends and Technologies, Alumni Talk. All these activities are managed by students that enhance their leadership qualities, interpersonal and communication skills. We strive to inculcate ethics and morals in students through various social activities. Enthusiastic and passionate faculty team has impacted on an excellent performance of students in placements, academics and certifications. Our students are bringing glory to our department by performing well globally in their endeavours.

Ramnivas Ruia Junior College, Matunga, a unit of S P Mandali’s Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College saw a hike in the passing percentage of both its Arts and Science students, in the just declared HSc result. This suggests how hard work and sincere efforts enables students to overcome the challenges. All the students have cleared the HSC examination this year. Pass percentage being 100%...

In Arts stream out of 417 students 161 students scored 90%and more and 36 students scored above 95%. Gauri R Sawant topped in Arts scoring 588/600 marks (98%). Twenty four specially challenged students (DIVYANG students) appeared for the HSC examinations and scored well Ghag Aryan Yogesh topped the list with 572/600 ( 95.33%).

461 students for General Science stream, 196 students of Bifocal stream. In all 657 Science students appeared this year (20-21) for HSC exams.

In the Science stream Dubal Arya K from General Science and Joshi Anish P from Bifocal stream shared the First rank scoring 596/600 (99.33).
