Organization Structure, Powers and Functions of the Functionaries

Parent Body: Ramnarain Ruia College is managed by a trust-Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali (a Pune based organization). Ruia is one of the thirty-nine educational institutions in Maharashtra,managed by S.P. Mandali. Like that of any one of its other institutions, the administration of the Ruia College is the responsibility of the Principal of the college who is directly accountable to the parent body. The Managing Council of the S.P. Mandali controls finance and approves schemes of development.


Principal and Vice Principals: The Management and the Principal together are the regulating and controlling body. They prepare strategic goals based on institutional objectives. These plans emphasize the use of alternative and modern tools of information and communication technologies, in coordination with the University and other institutions as well as students and parents. There is also a stress on developing industry linkages, promoting a research culture and forming various committees for regulatory purposes. The administrative and operating decisions are taken jointly in consensus with the respective functionaries and authorities pertaining to admissions, infrastructure, academics, research, finance, industry linkage, student support, grievances of staff and students, quality maintenance and sustenance, teaching–learning process etc.

Heads of Departments: The body of Heads of the Departments occupies an important position in the general governance and administration of academic and extracurricular activities. In this body, discussions are held on matters such as the Academic Calendar, Admissions, Introduction of new courses or methods of curriculum administration, Examinations and Results, Discipline, Attendance, Allocation of Departmental budgets and utilization, Centralized Assessment, Library, Student development to other routine administrative areas. This body co-ordinates the upward and downward line of communication in the management hierarchy. The Heads of Departments have advisory and executive functions, and review performances and suggest remedies.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC): This Cell was established in the academic year 1999-2000 and functions on the basis of the guidelines set forth by NAAC. It works towards improving and maintaining the quality of education, identifying and suggesting new ways of using teaching aids, developing suitable infrastructure and offering suggestions for new self-financing courses. The IQAC has been diligently involved in helping the Management and Principal and other committees by offering valuable suggestions and measures in order to have consistency in maintaining the quality of education. Thus, IQAC is an effective and efficient internal coordinating and monitoring mechanism.

Committees for Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Activities: There are more than 30 associations in different fields. These Associations carry out many innovative ideas which are in consonance with the goals of the Institution. Details of the activities are given in Subunits.


Staff Common Room (General Body): To encourage individual participation and democratic management, Staff Common Room Meetings are held periodically (four to six times during a year). The Staff Common Room Meetings provide a forum for interaction over new policies, plans and performance reviews. The teachers can question any decisions of locally formed committees, and open debate is encouraged. The Staff Common Room has initiated certain good practices, which include.

Felicitating teachers on their academic achievements: Doctorate/M Phil/Additional qualification honour received.

Contributing to emergency causes, taking up relief activities etc.

Celebrating cultural events involving teacher performances for students on Childrens Day.
