    ISRO, BANGLORE

The department had organized an educational visit to ISRO, Banglore on 7th January 2016. The visit was planned for TYBSc, MSc CS and IT students. The aim of our visit was to make students aware about the research work going in ISRO. We reached ISRO on 7th January 2016 at 11 am. After clearing the security check we were assigned a scientist to guide us throughout the visit. He is a really a knowledgeable person with impressive interaction. He welcomed us warmly and aligned all the students in proper manner! How often a scientist does so! After that he started introduction of ISRO, their journey, the initial conditions and how they are doing now. It was a pleasure to listen to him and proud to have achieved so many milestones. He then, began explaining about the satellites sent by India so far. The one thing worth pointing out is after every sentence and information about specific object, we were asked if we have any doubts or not, and after completing each section, all doubts were satisfactorily solved. We were told about launch vehicles, rockets, types of satellites, and also tested about our science knowledge!

After watching the exhibition, they show us a presentation explaining the Chaandrayan mission and Mangalyan mission. After the presentation, all asked a lot of questions about ISRO, their next projects and beliefs about outer space. It was obvious as you don’t always get a scientist to ask your doubts to! He too answered everyone individually. After the visit, the scientist asked us if other departments or colleges are also interested to visit and let them inform about the same.

We also got to know about job opportunities and careers at ISRO. After HSC ISRO conducts a test and also supports students for further education. Students who have done MSc are eligible to join ISRO after appearing for a entrance test. The details about the same is provided on their website.

    HAL (HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS LIMITED), BANGLORE

After ISRO next day that is 8th January 2016 we visited the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Banglore. The history and growth of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is synonymous with the growth of Aeronautical industry in India over the past 70 years. The Company which had its origin as the Hindustan Aircraft Company was incorporated on 23 Dec 1940 at Bangalore by Shri Walchand Hirachand  a farsighted visionary in association with the Government of Mysore with an Authorised Capital of Rs.4 crores (Paid up capital Rs.40 lakhs) and with the aim of manufacturing aircraft in India. In March 1941, the Government of India became one of the shareholders in the Company holding 1/3 of its paid-up capital and subsequently took over its management in 1942. In collaboration with the Inter Continental Aircraft Company of USA, Hindustan Aircraft Company commenced its business of manufacturing of Harlow Trainer, Curtiss Hawk Fighter and Vultee Bomber Aircraft.

In Dec 1945, the company was placed under the administrative control of Min. of Industry & Supply. In January 1951, Hindustan Aircraft Private Limited was placed under the Administrative control of Ministry of Defence. The Company had built aircraft and engines of foreign design under licence, such as Prentice, Vampire and Gnat aircraft. It also undertook the design and development of aircraft indigenously. In August 1951, the HT-2 Trainer aircraft, designed and produced by the company under the able leadership of Dr. V. M. Ghatge flew for the first time. Nearly 200 Trainers were manufactured and supplied to the Indian Air Force and other customers. With the gradual building up of its design capability, the company successfully designed and developed four other aircraft i.e. two seater 'Pushpak' suitable for flying clubs,  'Krishak' for Air Observatory Post(AOP) role, HF-24 Jet Fighter '(Marut)' and the HJT-16 Basic Jet Trainer '(Kiran)'. We saw various aircraft that were designed and built by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
