ABOUT US
Established in 1937, the Department of Economics is one of the oldest departments of the college comprised of a dedicated group of faculty and students.
It is committed to excellence in teaching and overall development of its students at the undergraduate level.
The Department undertakes courses in Economics leading to a degree in B.A Economics and B.A Eco-Statistics/Commerce/Politics/Mathematics. We also offer the same for our Marathi medium students.
Various co- curricular and extra-curricular activities like Guest Lecture Series, ELIXIR-An inter-collegiate Economics fest, Educational tours are organized throughout the year.
Our students make us proud as they go ahead to study at the best universities in India and abroad in the field of Economics like the Delhi School of Economics, London School of Economics, IIMs, JNU etc.

Felicitation of Meritorious Students
The Department activities every year start with the Felicitation Programme which is organized in the month of July to encourage and appreciate the efforts of students scoring 60% or above marks at the T.Y.B.A University Exams.
Alumni Interaction
Every year an interaction session is organized with our alumni studying in some of the prestigious universities in India and abroad to guide students about various career choices available after the undergraduate course.
Educational Tour
Like every year, an educational tour to Bangalore -Mysore was organized from 26th to 30th December 2008. The highlights of the tour were a visit to the Silk industry and IIM Bangalore.
The aim of such educational tours is not only to encourage students to observe various economic activities and learn beyond their books but to enhance and student - faculty interaction.
ELIXIR -An Economics Festival
ELIXIR is a recent activity started three years ago by the Department in order to enhance creativity and provide exposure to students.
This year ELIXIR went on to introduce an Intra Collegiate Economics Event on the 2nd December 2009 .Various competitions like Group Discussion, Paper Presentation, Ad-diction (Ad Making) etc were organized for our own students.
Also an intercollegiate event that followed on the 9th and 10th December 2009 received great response from all the colleges in and around Mumbai.
PLANNING FORUM ACTIVITIES
Guest Lecture by Dr.D.M Nachane Director -IGIDR
A guest lecture by Dr. Nachane was organized to enlighten students about the current "Global Financial Crisis". Every year an effort is made to arrange such lectures by eminent personalities in the field to encourage students to go beyond their books and apply their knowledge to the real world problems.
A.D Shroff Elocution Competition
Like every year A.D Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition was organized in the month of August on behalf of the Forum of Free Enterprise. First, Second, Third and two consolation prizes were awarded to worthy candidates.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS (2008-2009)
Manasi Agaskar, Ms. Dhanashree Thakare and Mr. Rushikesh Kulkarni under the guidance of Mrs.Mangala Tendulkar represented college at the National Conference on "THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC MELTDOWN -REPURCUSSIONS, CHALLENGES AND REFORMS" held in Chennai in January 2009.They were one of the 12 teams selected from 90 submissions received, to present a paper at the conference and were awarded the Second Prize Trophy along with a cash prize.
Our students also won 1st and 2nd Prize in the Ad-Making Competition, 1st prize in the Power Point Presentation, 1st Prize in the Quiz Competition at the Artha Manthan'08 -An Economics fest by Acharya Marathe College.
RESULTS
The Department of Economics has been consistently producing good results year after year. Every year the passing percentage is more than 85% and around 15- 20% students are awarded with an first class
