Ramnarain Ruia College, a prestigious academic institution, is well known for its credo of multidimensional development of students. It provides an invigorating environment for academic and extracurricular excellence. Ruia College has created many a milestones during its journey of over 70 years. One such endeavor was started in the year 2004- M.Sc. in Bioanalytical Sciences, under the UGC scheme of "Innovative Programmes". Ruia College was a pioneer to start this interdisciplinary, industry aligned, post graduate course. This course has been very well received by students as well as industry and it is growing from strength to strength.
ABOUT THE COURSE
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
l To develop trained manpower in the field of Bioanalytical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and ASU (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani) Sciences, with respect to adequate instrumentation background for proficient operation, troubleshooting and automation, as guided by the needs of the industry
l To make the students abreast with the scientific methodology involved in standardization of ASU medicine as well as its need, in the face of changing trends of modern pharmaceutical industries
l To train students both in traditional and sophisticated analytical techniques as well as in modern Genomics and Proteomics technologies l To introduce to the students the use of powerful tools of Information Technology in routine use at Manufacturing, QC / QA and Industrial Research l To give adequate exposure to students about the various Indian and International Guidelines with respect to Quality System Standards, Manufacturing, Clinical Trials, IPR, Regulatory Affairs, Bioethics etc. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COURSE

CO - CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
l The department organizes an annual event ‘BIOANALYZE'. It is an effort to introduce Bioanalytical Sciences to the student community and involve a healthy scientific discussion and interaction among the students of various fields through different events. l Students attend various seminars, conferences and workshops. l Field excursions are arranged for plant collection and for understanding the flora of various regions to the places including Silent Valley, Kerala ; Forest of Dangs, Gujarat. Also one day excursions are arranged every year. l Seminar presentations are given by the students on various syllabus and related topics, paper presentations from different journals to help improve their scientific communication. l Yoga sessions are arranged for the students.
WORKSHOPS AND PROJECTS
l The Department conducts workshops on Instrumental Techniques including Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, UV Vis Spectrophotometer, Electrophoretic Techniques (PAGE, 2D, Agarose). l The Department has successfully completed various industry projects on Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and Electrophoresis. l The Department will be conducting a 3 month certificate course in German as Foreign Language, from June to August 2009.
